⚠️ What the CDW Doesn't Cover

• Interior damage, including smoking and seat damage

• Severe damage where repairs run over 50% of the car's value, in which case you're charged half the standard rental fee for the repair period

Bring four things to the counter: your original IDP booklet, your home country's license, your passport, and a credit card in your own name. Get those right, and the rest is a quick walk-around and a signature.

📄 Required Documents at the Counter 

This is the section that decides whether you drive away or stand at the counter arguing, so read it twice. You need four documents at pickup:

• Your original International Driving Permit (IDP). It has to be the physical paper booklet. A copy, a PDF, or a photo on your phone won't be accepted. Korea recognizes IDPs issued by the countries recognized under the 1949 Geneva Convention or the 1968 Vienna Convention, which covers most visitors. Get yours in your home country before you fly; Korea won't issue one to a tourist.

• Your home country driver's license. The IDP is only a translation of your real license, not a replacement, so you carry both.

• Your passport, to confirm your entry date. Your rental dates need to fall within a year of when you entered Korea.

• A debit/credit card in your own name. Cash is not accpeted. 

A few points that cause needless panic online. If you're visiting from Taiwan, your IDP is valid — Korea has accepted Taiwanese permits since February 2022. Hong Kong and Macau IDPs are fine too. 

And the idea that European drivers can't rent in Korea? Not true. 

IDPs from EU member countries work like any other; what doesn't work is turning up with only your national EU license and no IDP, or with a novelty "international license" bought online. Bring a proper IDP booklet plus your home license, and you're set.

🚦 Before Driving Off
